About the Play
This production of Romeo Montague: Innocent or Guilty? directed by Claudio Favazza, is a development of the rehearsed reading English Theatre Milan organized in November. This new work is a retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet set in present-day Milan. It was written collaboratively in 2018 during a Shakespeare prison workshop which Maggie Rose co-curated at the Beccaria Young Offenders Institution, where it was directed by Giuseppe Scutellà . Set in a courtroom with a defendant, prosecutors, lawyers, witnesses, a judge, the play puts Romeo Montague on trial for Tybalt’s murder. Expect some unexpected plot twists!
We are looking for actors to perform the play. Are you interested in playing a small role? If you would like to audition, get in touch and we will send you the script.
Rehearsals and Performance Dates
31 JAN | 8:30–10:30 PM | LIVE at CAM Gabelle, REHEARSAL
7 FEB | 6:00–7:30 PM | ONLINE via Zoom, REHEARSAL
14 FEB | 8:30–10:30 PM | LIVE at CAM Gabelle, REHEARSAL
21 FEB | 8:30–10:30 PM | LIVE at CAM Gabelle, PERFORMANCE.
Following this, there might be other performances if we can find venues. We strongly believe that this play is worth taking forward.
Actors are expected to be off-book by 7 FEB to focus on interpretation, movement, and gestures.
